Test Engineering Team
The Test Engineering Team at Zaber focuses on the accuracy, reliability, and quality of both Zaber’s existing products as well as features or prototypes that are in development. They design and execute test plans, analyze results, and communicate findings to stakeholders. The team designs, machines, builds, and validates their own test jigs and fixtures. Much of the testing done uses scripting to collect data from various sensors, interact with Zaber devices, and generate easy to understand results. The Test Team works closely with other members of the Dev team to provide rigorous impartial feedback on design changes, product performance, and quality fluctuations.
Electrical and Test Engineering: A 5-Star Review of Zaber
I first learned about Zaber during a student tour (which I definitely did not sign up for because of the free cookies). A few years and several co-op terms later, I'd like to share my top 3 reasons why Zaber is a great place to do a co-op:0. Adorable doggos in the office!1. There are always people who know more than you (in the best way)Being around knowledgeable and smart Zaberians, I naturally learned a ton just from osmosis. But even better, there were awesome people who actively mentored me during both my time on the electrical engineering and test engineering team
Test Engineering: A Little Bit of Everything
My first taste of the culture at Zaber was when members of my student design team were invited for a tour around the office, and I was struck by the enthusiasm everyone had while sharing about what they were working on. The conversations I ended up having made it clear to me that Zaber was a place with plenty of technical expertise and an even greater eagerness to share it. Thus, when it came time to look for my next co-op term during my second year at UBC, Zaber was the first place I checked for openings. Sure enough, a role on the testing team caught my eye, and four days later, I found myself in a virtual interview. This then led to a longer interview—full of questions that really let me demonstrate my interests and abilities
Working to Make Automation Easier
At Zaber, we're always working to lower the barriers to automation. Join David Goosen from our Mechanical Engineering Team as he shares how we try to make that happen.
ZX Day
Our annual hackathon is a chance for anyone at the company to put together a team and deliver something that they think is worthwhile. It's a short burst of autonomy where oversight and process tends to take a back seat to creativity and elbow grease. A number of our products and internal tools started out as ZX projects. And even if you don't work on a ZX project, the final stretch is always exciting to watch and culminates in presentations and celebrations.
Parallel Axis Tripteron Concept
Zaber's R&D team does some interesting work in the name of experimentation and exploration and not always with a clear purpose in mind. Such is the path to innovation. A recent example is "Frogbot". .
