Student Work Experience Placements
At Zaber, we regularly have 1 to 4 students working on various teams. In this section, you'll find insights from past students about their experiences, providing a glimpse into what to expect from our student work experience opportunities. We also provide a guide to our processes, so you know what to expect.
Student Work Experience Guide
Student work experience opportunities can provide you with practical, hands-on experience in a real-world work environment. This allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge you’ve gained in the classroom to actual projects and tasks. We only post a student work experience role when we believe we have work that is challenging, rewarding, and beneficial to your career journey. We deliberately avoid bringing in students to do tedious work that no one else wants to do. We believe that if we show you how enjoyable it is to work here as a student, that you’ll understand how enjoyable it would be to work here as a graduate
Building Embedded Skills - Experience from a Firmware Co-op
I first heard about Zaber through its outreach events at UBC. When I was searching for a co-op for my final term, Zaber’s strong reputation among design teams and recommendations I got from mutual friends made applying there an easy decision. I applied to the Embedded Software co-op position through the Zaber website. When I was applying, I was split between deciding whether to proceed with the firmware or software team because both suited my computer science background. I chose the firmware team and in hindsight, that was the perfect choice for me
Sponsorships
Many Zaberians have had positive experiences participating in student engineering teams and we want to create opportunities for more people to have similar experiences. In this section, you will find insights into some of our past sponsorships and the resulting impact. We also explain our sponsorship process.
UBC Uncrewed Aircraft Systems
In 2025, we’re sponsoring UBC Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, a multidisciplinary design team that specializes in building autonomous drones and their support systems. They use cutting edge technology in the UAV field to compete in competitions such as AEAC and SUAS. Best of luck to the team in their competitions!
UBC Solar
We’re sponsoring UBC Solar in 2025, to help them advance their current solar car, Brightside, and bring it to competitions such as the Formula Sun Grand Prix. They’re a student-led engineering design team dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and racing solar-powered cars. Best of luck to the team in their competitions!
