Customer Application
The interfacial Science and Surface Engineering Laboratory (iSSELab) student team designed, built, and tested a small scientific experiment investigating the effect that gravity had on deposition and crystallization of water on a surface. The final design was flown on-board the National Research Council Canada Falcon-20 and results from this experiment helped optimize 3D printing in reduced gravity environments as the research progressed. The team used two of Zaber's X-LSQ150A stages in the experiment. The provided documentation and software allowed for easy control of the stages and the serial communication protocol allowed for easy customization, where specific actions were required.
About the iSSELab at the University of Alberta
The iSSELab houses a state-of-art facility equipped with instruments for surface and liquid characterization. The Lab is used regularly by engineering students from the University of Alberta for educational projects and research; additionally, equipment can be booked for use from external individuals. The iSSELab team formed to compete in the Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment Design Challenge and was one of four teams selected across Canada.
